25 April, 2023. Online – The DERlab Association held its annual General Assembly today to report on the work of the association, consider members’ advances in their laboratory capabilities, and discuss key areas of future activity through international opportunities and the association’s working groups.

This year’s gathering gladly welcomedTU Dortmund – Institute of Energy Systems, Energy Efficiency and Energy Economics (ie³)as a new member of the DERlab Association. The institute is one of the leading German higher education institutes in the field of energy systems, energy efficiency and the energy industry. The institute’s research and studies solve problems for a technically viable and sustainable electricity system of the future. TU Dortmund will contribute to the DERlab collective knowledge base and an already wide range of DERlab members’ testing services.

For the year 2023, the General Assembly elected Dr.-Ing. Philipp Strauß of Fraunhofer IEE as the new Spokesperson of the DERlab Association. Succeeding Peter Vaessen of KEMA, Dr.-Ing. Strauß is anticipating the prospective endeavours of his term, “I am delighted to speak for the board, and support the further development of this association with our exceptional member laboratories. During our assembly we decided to also offer grid operators and industry to become members in order to further strengthen the collaboration and services.”

Indeed, a new membership category has been introduced; Industry and Utility members, in order to reflect the needs of the Association to enhance collaboration with grid operators and better respond to the interoperability needs and challenges posed by the energy transition. This year’s General Assembly has been organised in two parts; the first part took place virtually on 25 April 2023 and the second part is planned as an in-person event that will be happening later on.
